How to Treat your Neck & Décolleté

The neck and the chest are among the most underrated parts of your body – but as you start to age, you’ll realize that they’re just as important as your face when it comes to skincare.

One of the most obvious signs of aging are wrinkles, and your neck is not an exception. For instance, looking down at your phone all day can result to premature folds. Your chest is also vulnerable to sun damage and rashes particularly when it’s exposed depending on your type of clothing.

That said, it’s important to pay really good attention to your neck and chest area. You have to treat your neck and chest parts like their own, and not a mere extension of the face.

Why is it essential? Well, imagine if you have a perfectly glowing face, but you notice the saggy and wrinkled parts developing all over your neck (aka turkey neck or tech neck) and chest – it will look unnatural since they are not balanced.

Add retinoid to your skincare

Retinoid has long been proven to promote healthy skin – treating acne, dark spots, and other signs of aging. It is a group of compounds that are extracted from Vitamin A, which helps brighten your skin and keep it glowing.

Don’t skip the serum

An underestimated part of a skincare routine is the use of serums. People often think it’s okay to skip it because one can just opt for a moisturizer, but they’re different. 

Unlike moisturizers that only sit on the surface, serums directly penetrate your skin. This way, you’re sure to counter skin issues from the inside, like acne and wrinkles.

Yes, a serum is a little more expensive, but it’s guaranteed to be a bang for your buck. It is important to note, though, that correct application is essential. A little drop goes a long way. 

Use a good day and night cream

Just like your face, there are creams that directly focus on your neck and chest. If you’d really like to prevent damage, better invest in such creams! You’ll notice how these creams can treat your neck and chest area with the glow they deserve.

You may gently massage your chosen cream on those areas – as you would on your face – for that added relaxation.

Just like your face, your neck and chest area is also prone to sun damage, so be sure to put as much sunscreen to keep them protected from harmful UV rays. 

A good sunscreen is always important, it doesn’t matter if you’re going to the beach or not – there are so many ways in which you can be exposed to the sun without realizing it. 

Do not wait until you get permanent sun damage as it would look like you have a tan line tattooed on your skin. There are sunburns that may not heal, and these will leave a permanent scar on your body that may worsen as you grow old.

Consider supplements

Although there are supplements that specifically promise to boost your skin health, a regular Vitamin C with bioflavonoids will do. 

Vitamin C has long been known to strengthen your immune system, but this also encompasses your skin. It will help boost collagen production and protect you from harmful UV rays.

Invest in chemical peels or laser treatments

For more serious cases, chemical peels and laser treatments, such as IPL or Intense Pulsed Light or Fraxel Laser treatment, may be an option. They’re proven effective for treating skin discoloration. 

However, aside from being a little more expensive, the healing time can be longer compared to topical means.

Eat a balanced diet

A balanced diet is important to keep your skin youthful – but don’t just do it for your skin, your whole body will thank you for that! Opt for those that are high in healthy fats, such as avocados, walnuts, olive oil, and more. Green veggies are always a good idea, too!

Further, avoid unhealthy ones like soda, fast food, salty snacks, among others.  

Remember that prevention is better than the cure, so never neglect taking care of your whole body inside and out!
